PITRE John

Born in 1942, John Pitre, a master of fantasy and surrealism, has had a significant influence on American art for more than thirty years. His childhood fascination with drawing and painting eventually led him to pursue art as a career. He studied under New York=s Art Commissioner Frank Reilly at the Art Student=s League where he would later exhibition his works. He also exhibited at the famed Carnegie Hall and, in 1974, was the featured artist at the World=s Fair - Spokane, Washington.

The master surrealist, Salvador Dali, has had a powerful influence on John Pitre. Pitre felt surrealism to be the most challenging and difficult of all classical art forms to properly execute. Pitre would use his artistic expression as a vehicle for social commentary. Well before the obvious societal problems of our times, Pitre=s surrealistic renderings of overpopulation and nuclear and ecological deterioration became wildly popular as poster images. Between 1967 and 1972, Pitre was the top selling print artist in the United States where he sold over three million posters of these prophetic images. In addition, many of his original paintings have sold in excess of $300,000 each and are widely collected throughout the world today.

Pitre, also known as a modern day Da Vinci, is an avid inventor and pilot. He presently holds over 30 patents and a pioneer in many fields. He has explored the depths of the oceans with diving gear of his own design. His affinity for the high seas led to a patent for the concept of generating electricity from the ocean waves and currents. He has learned to fly every form of aircraft available to him, including a one of a kind configuration that he conceived, engineered and built. Another specialty of his is creating equipment for the development of the human body. Through his scrupulous study of human anatomy in the arts, Pitre has designed some of the most advance fitness equipment. His credits include the Questar line of fitness equipment and the ROM (Range of Motion) which was awarded the Best of What=s New in 1993 by Popular Science Magazine.

Pitre=s artistic genius is evident in his spectacular print works; his magnificent rendering of the human anatomy, his interpretation of the majestic creatures of the oceans and his visionary surreal portraits of our universe are all a testament to the brilliance of this multi-talented artist. ...
